NORFOLK RETREAT
This barn conversion sits in a picturesque village, a few miles from the North Norfolk coast. The garden, divided into two by an original brick and flint wall, enjoys a south-facing aspect with views over neighbouring farmland. The family wanted to enjoy outdoor living, with easy access from the house into the garden, where they could relax and entertain and allow their children space to play.
The design has a contemporary coastal feel, with deck-board and sandstone paving used throughout, linking the courtyard with the main garden. A dining terrace overlooks the lawn and leads around to the garden store. Lavender and thyme edge the path, which steps down into an enclosed seating area, where flint-filled gabion benches and raised beds surround a central fire bowl, extending the family’s enjoyment of their garden on cool summer evenings.

In the adjoining courtyard, a relaxed lounge seating area leads off from the kitchen and dining room. Rendered raised beds dissect the space and the planting has echoes of the Mediterranean with salvia, euphorbia, sedum and grasses weaving through mounds of santolina and box.
